Safeguarding Policy

Our commitment to protecting every child and vulnerable adult who uses Unlock Tuition.

Last reviewed: 1 April 2026

Unlock Tuition is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child and vulnerable adult who uses our service.

Our principles

  • The welfare of the child is paramount at all times.
  • All children, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, background or ability, have the right to protection from abuse.
  • All concerns and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

Who this covers

All students under 18 must be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian. The guardian holds the account, receives all communications, and is present or reachable during every lesson.

How we vet our teachers

Some of our teachers are based outside the UK, so we do not rely on DBS checks — those checks are only available for UK residents. Instead, every teacher goes through our own vetting process before they take a single lesson:

  • Personal interview with our team, including a teaching demonstration.
  • Reference checks covering previous teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Verification of identity and right to work.
  • Safeguarding briefing on our expectations for working with children and vulnerable adults online.

Recording and reviewing lessons

To keep every student safe and hold our teachers to a consistent standard, every lesson is recorded and stored securely on our systems. Our team regularly reviews recordings — both routinely and in response to any concern raised by a student or guardian — to make sure lessons are appropriate, professional and effective.

Recordings are used for safeguarding and quality-assurance only. They are never shared with other students, parents or third parties. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Online lesson conduct

  • Lessons are conducted over Google Meet and never in private messages or on personal accounts.
  • Communication between teachers and students under 18 goes via the guardian's account inside the student portal.
  • Students and guardians must not attempt to arrange lessons or payments with a teacher outside of Unlock Tuition.

Reporting a concern

If you have any safeguarding concern, email safeguarding@unlocktuition.co.uk. In an emergency, contact the police or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

This policy is reviewed annually and updated as our service evolves.
